Dr John Conto was born and raised near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He attended Allegheny College and earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry in 1982. He received his doctor of optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 1986, and he completed a residency in primary eye care at The Eye Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is a past associate professor of optometry at the Illinois College of Optometry, Chicago, where he was also the chief of staff of the Illinois Eye Institute. In 1991, he was selected as a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. He has been a frequent author and presenter.
