The 2 receptionist were great. My entire experience from that point began an experience that was unprofessional, discourteous and ridiculous. I brought my wife in to have 5 teeth removed. Upon entering, one of the dental assistants could not provide us with a moment of her time. She told us to sit down and that the doctor was not in the office yet. She had no idea when he would be in. This was my first visit @ this office and to be dismissed so quickly and rudely was not a great start to this visit. When the dentist finally arrived, he barely spoke 2 sentences to my wife (his patient) and NEVER looked at her whilst addressing her. When we were finally called into the office that the procedure was to transpire, my wife was told, not asked, to sit down. The staff was rude and cold (and that is putting it nicely)! It was evident from the start that one of the staff could care less about anything going on around her and yet another member of their staff was dismissive and rude and did not care whatsoever about my wife's concerns or comfort. This particular staff member placed a blood pressure cuff on my wife and began the machine, then draped the cord around my wife's feet. My wife asked me to remove it, which I did. When the staff girl returned and saw that I removed it, she promptly replaced it. I told her that my wife was uncomfortable with it there and moved it, again. She put it back and said : "It has to be there, ok? Leave it alone, please. Thank you." It never had to be there. It could have been placed in such a fashion that it did not bother my wife. The doctor came in and never looked me in the eye or greeted me as he rudely and rapidly (obviously in a hurry to move onto ......SOMETHING....)explained the procedure to my wife. Then asked me to leave. They told me they would let me know when my wife was in the recovery room. The recovery room was more a closet than a room.( In fact, I believe it actually was a repurposed closet.) It looked very uncomfortable. My wife was lying on this hard mat with a thin blanket, shivering when I arrived. She wanted to sit up and put her jacket on, so I helped her. She said she did not feel well and was cold when asked by the ruder of the 2 assistants (Blood pressure cuff girl) why she was sitting upright. They then TOLD her to lay down. When I explained that she wanted to sit up they said she HAD to lay down. (Ok, at this point, I'm beginning to really not like blood pressure cuff girl....). SO here I am, sitting on a chair, in the hallway, in front of the recovery closet, looking at a ceiling light that is only half attached to properly wondering if it may, perhaps, fall on blood pressure cuff girl's head, when I realized that everything they came to attend to my wife (all 3 times over a half hour span and they were not busy whatsoever) I had to stand up and move my fast-food restaurant-style chair out of the way so they could get to her. My wife began to feel sick to her stomach so she stood up. This made blood-pressure cuff girl lose her mind. She DEMANDED that my wife be seated and walked towards her to take her arm and promptly seated my wife like you would an unruly child on her cell phone at the dinner table. I told my wife you can stand back up, honey and glared at bp cuff girl and said my wife wishes to stand, ok? Thank you. (The same way she responded to earn her nickname: "blood pressure cuff girl".) She stormed off and got the dentist. He quickly rattled through the exit instructions and said: "Do you have any questions? No? Ok I'll see you ...." And that's where I stopped him and interrupted his 'exit strategy'. I said: "Yes, I have a problem. A member of your staff has been rude and discourteous to my wife and myself and, in my humble opinion, I find her actions unwarranted, unprofessional and unappreciated. You need to speak to her about handling her personal issues outside of work and give your clients a non-stop attitude. In short, you need to 'teach' her to have patience with your patients..." His response was (without looking me in the eye, of course...): "I'm sorry." I replied:" You could be. I could file a complaint with the Medical Ethics Commission for the State of Maine concerning patient treatment or lack thereof and the unprofessional conduct of the dental hygienist on your staff. With regards to my experience here today with reference to your staffs' actions; had I a say in the matter, 2 of them would be dismissed immediately as they are, at best, janitor material and on so marginally!" The dentist, Dr. Mark Britten, DMD, is not of professional caliper. It lends to the question: 'How did he get his license to practice?' Perhaps, I'll research that....

I would never visit them again. Surgeon was not compassionate at all. Extremely not concerned with my comfort. Simply went through the motions of his craft. Very rude.

This guy is the most rude and condescending oral surgeon I have ever been to. He doesn't understand dental anxiety at all and belittled me because I felt anxiety about the procedure. He refused my request to use nitrous oxide for the procedure. I walked out without having the procedure done and found another DMD who offered it to me without me even having to ask.

Dr. Britten has helpful information available online, which is really convenient. They have a good website for directions and online presence. The office area, waiting room and operatories were prestine including the bathroom!. I was not concerned for my safety in that area, and many places of business appeared to be well-maintained as well as flourshing. The staff as a group, and individually, were very pleasant and the dental assistant was very cheerful, friendly as well as knowlegable. . Having worked in the dental field myself 50 years ago, we had a great discussion regarding the advancements in dental technology. They made the extra effort to make sure every question and concern I had was addressed. I would not hesitate to recommend Dr, Britten and his staff to anyone who asked for my opinion. The extractioin of my two molars went so smoothly, i did not realize the teeth had been extracted until i asked. I even made sure he extracted two (#nos. 1 and 2)molars as it was such a pleasant experience. And, these were not the first molars that I have had extracted. I would not hesitate to recommend Dr. Britten to anyone who needs a surgical dental procedure.
