SHOULD NOT HAVE A MEDICAL LICENCE

I brought my 14 yr old daughter to see this psychiatrist at the referral of my pediatrician. My daughter was falling into an acute depression and I was happy that I could get an appointment rather quickly. Dr. C agreed that my daughter was in a deep depression and over the course of 7 WEEKS prescribed her three different dosages of prozac, Klonopin and then xanax. (since then I have been total many times that Xanax should not be prescribed to children). Several times, medication was prescribed over the phone without seeing my daughter. Never was I told that my very responsible daughter could handle dispensing her own medication. In less than 7 weeks, I think this dr. wrote prescriptions for over 250 pills for my daughter. I was desperate for help and was assured it would take time and to be patient. I WAS WRONG! Not once did the dr. take my childs vitals, blood pressure or weigh her as part of her treatment. This should have been a red flag for me, but I didn't know better.

Concurrently, my daughter was seeing a therapist (Jenny Tart) in the same office as I felt it was important that the prescribing doctor and therapist shared a patient file and communicated about my child. THIS DID NOT HAPPEN! When in with the therapist, my daughter indicated she was having obsessive thoughts about death. This was not shared with me or the dr. - given she was on an anti depressant with a suicide/black box warning, this should have been communicated with the prescribing physician.

My child ended up over dosing on xanax and I had to rush her to the emergency room where she was admitted to the UNC psych unit for a 6 day stay. When I called Dr. C to inform her of my daughter's critical hospitalization I spoke with her once. She NEVER called back to check on my child's health (mental of physical). She did manage to bill me to have my daughter's file copied for her new psychiatrist - who is taking very good care of her.

Each time I have mentioned who my child was seeing prior to the hospitalization each of the 6-7 drs have indicated they have never heard anything good about Helen Courvoisie. SHE HAS A REPUTATION FOR OVER PRESCRIBING TO CHILDREN. Her licence should be revoked.

PLEASE DO NOT TAKE YOUR PRECIOUS CHILD to this woman. I wish I had known better.

I should have listened to my husbands opinion of this Dr. after our first visit. We brought our child here and he was not impressed. I noticed a few red flags so to speak but was trying to get help for my son. This Dr. can't seem to remember from one appointment to another what the issues are. Unless we pressed for an answer to a specific question we were left in the dark. There was never any improvement in my childs condition. Thankfully we moved on and found an excellent physician who is organized, cares for his patients and has kept us abreast of what is going on, gives us specific options and other resources. After just 4 months our child is once again thriving. Maybe Dr. Courvoise is past her prime and/or is no longer that interested in her career. Maybe time to retire.
