Dr. Gorey performed hernia surgery on me over six weeks ago. She told me I would be "up and around" within 2 days and I could "resume normal activities" 2 weeks after the surgery. It has been 6 weeks and I still suffer from complications with nerve pain. I am still unable to resume the most basic activities.

Dr. Gorey has been completely unhelpful. She refuses to acknowledge the problem, and makes no attempt to treat it. Her advice is contradictory at best and completely incoherent at worst. After two weeks when I still could not stand up without excruciating pain, she insisted that I could resume normal activity and told me that my pain was normal and "similar to a bruise" or "a tugging sensation," despite my descriptions of acute nerve pain. In addition, she refused to speak directly with me following the surgery, even though I was having alarming complications, and preferred to, in her words, "relay messages through her receptionist." This strategy led to additional problems because the receptionist is obviously unable to answer follow-up questions.

The old adage that surgeons care only about surgery and then wash their hands of the patient could not be more true. I have consulted other doctors following the surgery and they immediately identified the problem and gave me concrete advice about how to treat it.
